Napowrimo thanks again to Jo Bell’s Prompt

In today’s attempt to catch up I have used another one of Jo Bell’s prompts: 5   Read Alden Nowlan’s poem Great Things Have Happened. Write about a great historic moment and how it affected – or didn’t affect – your life. Diana’s death in Paris – 9/11 – the assassination of a political leader. Resist the urge for great philosophical pronouncements. Just tell it like it was.

My Wildly Inappropriate Response to the News of Princess Diana’s Death

I was eleven or so, already recalcitrant in the mornings and when my door was knocked (the door of a house now raised the ground, old door, layers of paint like sedimentary rock, it had a solidity and certain quality of knock depending on whether you hit the panels or not). Early that morning I opened it begrudgingly Most likely in a polar bear patterned all in one buttoned up number and and from those buck teeth that had not been tamed yet said quietly ‘’good’’ shut the door and burrowed under the duvet.
