I am Napowrimoing I just got a bit busy! Myth Poem Prompt

Ok I will attempt some of the other poetry prompts later tonight or tomorrow but I have done two firstly i include a very rough first draft of a poem from this prompt: http://www.napowrimo.net/2014/04/day-two/

I chose Echo and Narcissus and kind of wove in the fact new photos of Kurt Cobain’s death scene have been released I am not especially obsessed with him but there is that aura to the 27 club, the young beautiful musicians who will never age and the wierdness of the way the policemen in the photos were posed struck me, I won;t link to them here as they do include some rather grisly shots of drug paraphenalia but they they will be easily found. This is a really rough first draft and wrote it a few days ago and added to it today (I know not in the spirit but I didn’t want to post total nonsense)

Narcissus is the main attraction now

Our obsession with beautiful deaths

The beauteous youths who never wither

Now more than ever,

Dali focused on the body calcified it in paint

And now we come to

Those new photos released of Kurt’s room

The police on the scene posed like they knew

This would make its way into the papers

A small unit of fame for having been near

the beauty and its end

Echo is pushed out forgotten

Not even given others words to speak

The myths love women’s silence

Transforming them to animals

Or inanimate objects burning them up

Now we transform women who speak

Out, up, express their opinions they become

Disfigured by insults silenced by threats to their body
